Authorization to Apply for and Enter into Agreement for Lifelong Arts Engagement Grant (Ordinance S-45970)

 

Description

Request to authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to apply for the Lifelong Arts Engagement Grant for an amount not to exceed $2,500, and enter into a contract with the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Further request authorization for the City Treasurer to accept, and for the City Controller to disburse, all funds related to this item.

Summary

The Lifelong Arts Engagement Grant seeks to enhance the work of community and social service organizations and governmental entities through projects that require partnering with professional teaching artists and/or arts organizations. The partners for this grant are Playback Theatre and Herberger Theater Center. Lifelong Arts Engagement encompasses a Creative Aging component intended to use arts and creative expression to improve the quality of life for older adults. Playback Theatre will facilitate Reader's Theater workshops at two Senior Centers and will culminate with a public performance at the Herberger Theater Center. This program aligns with improving the quality of life for seniors through innovative educational collaborations and partnerships. The grant application deadline is Sept. 5, 2019.

 

Contract Term

The grant period is Nov. 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020.

 

Financial Impact

The grant requires a minimum 50 percent match. The project’s total cost is $5,000, with the City portion not to exceed $2,500. The matching funds will be donated to the City by the Herberger Theater Center.
