Title

Grant Application to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for Replacement Well Project (Ordinance S-43230)

Description

Request authorization for the City Manager, or his designee, to submit a grant application to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau), grant opportunity BOR-DO-17-F010, for partial funding for Replacement Well Project #278, Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Well. Authorization is also requested for the City Controller to accept and disburse the funds, if awarded.

Report

Summary

The Bureau has developed a new Drought Response program to provide grant funds for projects building long-term resiliency to drought. In an effort to be drought ready, the City has been developing ASR wells to be able to take water available today and store it underground to be used in the future during times of drought. One of the ASR wells currently ready for drilling and construction is located at 4902 E. Ashler Hills Drive. The grant provides an opportunity for the Water Services Department to seek alternative funding for vital drought resiliency projects.

Financial Impact

The anticipated grant from the Bureau provides funding up to $300,000. If awarded, matching funds up to $300,000 are required under this program and are available in the Water Services Department Capital Improvement budget.
