Summary
USCM, in partnership with the American Beverage foundation for a Healthy America (ABFHA), has launched the 2020 Childhood Obesity Prevention Grants Program, which can provide funding of up to $150,000 with no matching funds required. Applications for the 2020 Childhood Obesity Prevention Grants Program are due Aug. 30, 2019.
If successful, the Parks and Recreation Department's intent is to utilize the grant funds to further integrate physical activity and health and wellness education into the existing Phoenix Afterschool Center (PAC) program through a sports intramural program. The intramural program would include education on the importance and benefits of regular physical activity, with the ultimate goal of decreasing childhood obesity rates citywide. The PAC program currently serves approximately 1,400 youth daily in 36 school sites throughout the City.
Financial Impact
The amount of the grant application is up to $150,000. No matching funds are required.
