Summary
The City of Phoenix Prosecutor’s Office Diversion Programs are educational counseling programs offered to eligible defendants as an alternative to criminal convictions and their consequences (i.e., jail, probation, fines, and fees). Defendants who successfully complete all aspects of diversion will ultimately have their cases dismissed.
The Phoenix Prosecutor’s Office Diversion Unit administers the Prostitution Solicitation Diversion Program (PDP), the Domestic Violence Diversion Program (DVD), Positive Alternative Diversion Program (PAP), Cognitive Skills Diversion Program (CSP), Underage Drinking and Alcohol Possession (UDP), and the Shoplifting/Theft Diversion Program (SDP). Each of the diversion programs offered by the Prosecutor’s Office include:
Domestic Violence Diversion Program (DVD)- purpose is to provide a counseling/education program to participants to stop the cycle of violence by focusing on the participant’s accountability and compliance with program guidelines.
Positive Alternative Diversion Program (PAP) Anger Management- purpose is to provide anger management counseling to stop the assaultive and threatening behavior to participants in non-domestic violence cases.
Cognitive Skills Diversion Program (CSP)- provides counseling through cognitive behavioral therapy and opportunities to explore thinking patterns to help participants make better decisions
Shoplifting/Theft Diversion Program (SDP)- assists participants in identifying stressful and problem areas in their lives by providing educational tools for making positive changes
Underage Drinking and Alcohol Possession (UDP)- primarily educational or provides treatment based on participant assessment conducted by provider.
Prostitution Solicitation Diversion Program (PSD- purpose is to stop behavior of soliciting/hiring another person to commit acts of prostitution; educational and focuses on individuals charged with soliciting prostitution.
Prostitution Diversion Program (PDP)- provides and monitors rehabilitation services that focus on support, education, and treatment for the participants to end the lifestyle of prostitution.
In addition, information will be provided regarding the goals and purposes of the programs, number of counseling or class sessions, and any additional services that may be available to participants.
