Summary
The Head Start Birth to Five program provides comprehensive services to 3,451 children and their families of which 188 participate in the Early Head Start Child Care Partnership program. Children in this program range from birth to 3 years of age. The Head Start Birth to Five Child Care Partnership program contracts with private child care centers who offer services five days per week, up to ten hours per day for parents who are working or attending an educational institution.
The City Council approved the following slot distribution on June 26, 2019, with Ordinance S-45878:
- Fusion Minds dba Immanuel Care for Children: 32 slots
- Kidz Kampus: 80 slots
- Out of This World Christian Child Care: 32 slots
- Twinkling Stars dba Cactus Kids Preschool: 44 slots
In May 2020, the Head Start Birth to Five program was informed that Kidz Kampus was not able to renegotiate their lease and would be closing their center permanently effective June 26, 2020. An agreement was developed with two current centers to redistribute the 80 slots; Cactus Kids Preschool to take 68 slots and Out of This World Christian Child Care to take the remaining 12 slots. The realigned slot distribution is as follows:
- Fusion Minds dba Immanuel Care for Children: 32 slots
- Out of This World Christian Child Care: 44 slots
- Twinkling Stars dba Cactus Kids Preschool: 112 slots
Contract Term
The term of the contract is July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2024.
