Description
Request the City Council for retroactive authorization for the City Manager, or his designee, to allow the Police Department to apply for, accept, and enter into an agreement with the Bureau of Justice Assistance for the FY2019 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Grant. Further request authorization for the City Treasurer to accept, and for the City Controller to disburse, all funds related to this item.

Summary
The focus of this funding is to support public safety and violence reduction through social services and other partnerships that will enhance and increase law enforcement responses to people with mental illnesses or co-occurring mental illnesses and substance abuse. Specifically, grant funding will be used to pay for travel expenses, equipment, supplies and to fund a sub-award to the EMPACT-Suicide Prevention Center to provide services to individuals with mental illnesses.
The grant application was due on July 15, 2019.
Contract Term
Two years beginning Oct. 1, 2019 through Sept. 30, 2021.
Financial Impact
The total funding request is $100,000. A 20 percent match is required; funding has been identified in the Police Department's budget.
