This report provides an update to the City Council on the planning study Maricopa Association of Governments is undertaking of the Interstate 10: Deck Park Tunnel to the Interstate 10, Interstate 17 Split Freeway Corridor.

Summary

Funding for the Interstate 10 (I-10): Deck Park Tunnel to the I-10, Interstate 17 (I-17) Freeway Corridor Planning Study, was identified as part of the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Fiscal Year 2022-23 Biennial Unified Planning Work Program and Budget. The purpose of the study is to define a series of potential improvements to enhance safety, traffic operations, regional travel, and accessibility for I-10 between the Deck Park Tunnel and the I-10, I-17 split interchange. The study also includes portions of State Route 51 (SR 51) and the I-10, Loop 202, SR 51 system interchange, known as the “Mini Stack.” The study’s final recommendations will establish the framework for future improvements funded through the extension of Proposition 400. This item represents an update on the findings of the study to date, and the alternative improvements being considered. Please see Attachment A which provides the MAG report detailing this study.
