Summary
Phoenix has experienced significant economic growth and diversification since the Great Recession as a result of long-term investment in key industries, intentional alignment of land use and infrastructure, and strong public-private partnerships. Today, Phoenix demonstrates robust population growth, rising income opportunities, and a diversified employment base supported by an educated talent pool. Staff will provide an overview of the current Phoenix economy and highlight how these efforts have strengthened the City’s national and global competitive position and established a strong foundation for future economic strategy.
This presentation begins a six part series led by the Community and Economic Development Department (CED) for the Economic Development and the Arts Subcommittee. Part 1 establishes a shared economic baseline. Future updates will provide a deep dive into talent, workforce, and industry alignment; land, real estate, and economic geography; state of downtown; global positioning and market access; and the future direction of Phoenix’s economy. Together, the six part series is designed to support informed decision-making and facilitate robust discussion among the Subcommittee, City staff, and key stakeholders.
