Report

Summary

On Aug. 25, 2015, City of Phoenix voters approved passage of Proposition 104 (T2050), which provides a 0.3 percent increase in the transaction privilege and use tax rate to fund citywide transportation projects, including the construction and maintenance of City streets. Collection of T2050 sales tax began on Jan. 1, 2016, and will continue through Dec. 31, 2050.

The 35-year, multi-modal transportation plan invests in Phoenix’s immediate and long-term transportation needs, such as street improvements, expanded bus service, enhanced dial-a-ride service, new light rail miles, bicycle lanes and sidewalks. T2050 ensures Phoenix residents have transportation options to meet their needs. It is also a critically-important component to furthering the City’s economic development, sustainability and accessibility goals.

To assess and document the progress made in the implementation of T2050, an annual report will be prepared to communicate to the Citizens Transportation Commission (CTC), Mayor and Council, and the public about T2050-related goals and accomplishments.

Reporting Periods

The first annual report (Attachment A - Phoenix T2050 Progress Report #1) covers the first 18 months of the T2050 program, from Jan. 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. It also includes progress anticipated during the first five years of the program (through fiscal year 2022). Subsequent reporting periods will include accomplishments completed in the most recent fiscal year.

Next Steps

The T2050 annual report is intended to be distributed online with limited print distribution. The report will be posted to the phoenix.gov/T2050 website. Staff will publicize the report through available media and public outreach tools.

Concurrence/Previous Council Action

The Citizen's Transportation Commission reviewed the annual report at its Sept. 28, 2017 meeting.
