Description
Request to authorize the City Manager, or the City Manager's designee, to enter into an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Arizona Board of Regents for and on behalf of Arizona State University (ASU) to provide Mediation and Dispute Resolution Training for City staff. Further request to authorize the City Controller to disburse all funds related to this request. The value of this IGA will not exceed $30,000.

Summary
The Human Resources Department's Labor Relations Division has identified a need to provide training in mediation and dispute resolution to City staff. This program is intended to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and reduce reliance on more costly forms of dispute resolution. The Lodestar Dispute Resolution Center of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law will design and deliver Conflict Resolution Training to up to 125 participants, and a Certified Mediator Training Program, including quarterly continuing education, to a cohort of 20 participants. Eligible staff who successfully complete the 40-hour Certified Mediator Training Program will be able to facilitate discussions intended to resolve workplace conflicts. The City's cost for this training is $30,000.
Contract Term
This agreement will remain effective for two years or until the completion of all services.
Financial Impact
The value of this IGA will not exceed $30,000 over the life of the agreement. Funds are available in the Human Resources Department's Operating budget.
