Report

Summary

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management Invasive Plant Grant Program, funded through the State of Arizona and United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, can provide funding from $50,000 to $500,000 with no matching funds required. Applications for the 2019 Invasive Plant Program Grant are due Aug. 30, 2019. The intent is to utilize the grant funds to reduce the invasive cattail population in the three ponds at Papago Park to improve effective water delivery between the ponds. The successful treatment will enhance the sustainability of the ponds, restore ecological balance and allow for sustained strict management of cattails. The project's scope would not remove all cattail stands, as limited presence is beneficial in providing a natural habitat for fish and wildlife. This grant can provide short- and long-term tangible benefits by improving Papago Park for all recreational users and overall water quality.

Financial Impact

The amount of the grant application is $50,000. No matching funds are required.
