National Recreation and Parks Association Connecting Communities Through Outdoor Play Grant (Ordinance S-46294)

 

Description

Request retroactive authorization for the City Manager, or his designee, to allow the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for, accept and enter into an agreement with the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) for the Connecting Communities Through Outdoor Play grant in the amount of $26,000, and related contracts. Further request authorization for the City Treasurer to accept, and for the City Controller to disburse, all funds related to this item.

Summary

The Parks and Recreation Department applied for, and was awarded, a grant from the NRPA to resurface two tennis courts at Cielito Park. The project is estimated to have a completion date of May 1, 2020. Per the terms of the grant, $1,000 of the awarded monies is allocated for a community kick-off event. Plans for the kick-off event will include free tennis lessons and giveaways. The City may enter contracts for the work to fulfill the terms of the grant.

 

Due to the limited time between the grant announcement, proposal deadline and award, there was not enough time to place this item on a prior City Council agenda.

 

Contract Term

The contract term is Dec. 2, 2019 through June 30, 2020.

 

Financial Impact

No City in-kind funds are required; and no General Funds are needed as a result of this grant opportunity.
