Description
This report provides the Economic Development and Housing Subcommittee with an overview of the current housing and homeless crisis and includes regional data from the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) on increasing rents, evictions, homelessness, and decreasing housing availability. An update will also be provided on the Pathways Home plan, a regional approach to address homelessness.

Summary
MAG is the hub for the coordination and planning of homeless services system efforts in the Maricopa region. MAG staffs the Maricopa Regional Continuum of Care comprised of a wide range of community stakeholders working to address homelessness. MAG also coordinates the annual regional Point-in-Time Count of people experiencing homelessness in shelters and on the streets. Additionally, MAG oversees the Coordinated Entry system which is designed to ensure people experiencing or at risk of homelessness are prioritized for resources based on severity of need and that people are matched to available resources most suitable to meet their needs.
The primary source of homelessness data comes from the Homeless Management Information System, which is overseen by MAG. This database is used by providers across Maricopa County to track information when someone interacts with the homeless services system. It is used to collect client-level data and data on the provision of housing and services to homeless individuals and families and persons at risk of homelessness.
The Maricopa region is one of the fastest growing regions in the nation. With that growth has come decreasing availability, increasing rents and mortgages, higher evictions, and as a result – increased homelessness. The presentation will include trends in housing over the past decade, data on homelessness, and how the region and the city are responding to the increasing need.
