Report

Summary

The Police Department is seeking federal funding to implement the Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti (D.R.A.G.G.) youth mentoring program. The program is a law enforcement and educator led high school course designed to introduce and instruct at-risk students with the skills to pursue a career in auto mechanics. The purpose of this grant funding is to enhance officer safety through increased respect for law enforcement through these community engagement and outreach efforts. The program goals and objectives are to develop new knowledge, or leverage existing knowledge, about community policing activities and strategies that develop collaborative partnerships for the benefit of the program participants.  If awarded, grant funding will be utilized for the course curriculum supplies and necessary equipment.  The grant application was due June 23, 2017. If City Council denies this request, the application will be rescinded.

Contract Term

The term is two years, with an anticipated start date of Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2019.

Financial Impact

The grant amount requested is $25,000.00. No matching funds are required. Cost to the City would be in-kind resources only.
