The purpose of this report is to request the Land Use and Livability Subcommittee, which serves as the Head Start Birth to Five Governing Board, approval to apply for an extension of the liquidation period for the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 from the Office of Head Start.

Summary
The Head Start Birth to Five program has unfinished projects from Fiscal Year 2019-2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and is requesting to apply for an extension of the grant liquidation period from Oct. 30, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2020. This extension will allow for all projects to be completed and paid for with Fiscal Year 2019-2020 funding. Projects include playground structures for new preschool sites in the Cartwright, Isaac, Roosevelt and Pendergast Elementary School Districts, classroom furniture and materials for the new classrooms at these sites, and a shade structure for the Alhambra Preschool Academy. The cost of these projects total $1,400,000.
Contract Term
The remaining four years of the five-year contract term are July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2024.
Financial Impact
The grant funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. There is no impact to the General Fund.
Concurrence/Previous Council Action
The Head Start Policy Council approved this item on July 31, 2020.
