Calsense Irrigation Components Requirements Contract - IFB 19-059A (Ordinance S-46271)

Description

Request to authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to spend not more than $100,000 in additional money under Contract No.149028 (Contract) with Sprinkler World of Arizona, Inc. to purchase Calsense brand irrigation parts and supplies for the Aviation Department. Further request authorization for the City Controller to disburse all funds related to this item.

Report

Summary

The Contract was initially awarded by the Parks and Recreation and Public Transit departments, but the Aviation Department has identified an opportunity to utilize the Contract to satisfy operational needs. The Landscape Maintenance Section of the Facilities and Services Division is in the process of updating 20-year-old irrigation control systems at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to meet current technological standards in order to achieve both efficiencies and cost savings. The upgraded irrigation systems will allow for improved irrigation control methods based on humidity, temperature, and evaporation. Additionally, the systems will shut down and send notices when excessive water loss due to breaks and malfunctions occurs, further improving water conservation efforts.

Financial Impact

Upon approval of $100,000 in additional money, the revised aggregate value of the Contract will not exceed $1.05 million. Funds are available in the Aviation Department’s budget.

Concurrence/Previous Council Action

The Contract was approved by the City Council on Jan. 1, 2019.
