Summary

The City of Phoenix has a long-standing commitment to partnering with universities and professional programs to host interns across multiple departments. Interns pursuing bachelor’s or master’s of social work degrees are hosted in the Housing, Human Services, Library and Fire departments. These partnerships strengthen the City’s ability to serve Phoenix residents by expanding service capacity, providing real-world experience for social work students and developing a pipeline of future social service professionals.

Staff will present the Community Services and Education Subcommittee with an overview of the history of university partnerships, intern contributions across departments, impacts on residents, benefits to interns and success stories.
