Vice Mayor O'Brien made a motion to approve Item 108 per the July 1, 2025 memo from the Planning and Development Director with adoption of the related ordinance.
Councilwoman Guardado seconded the motion.
Prior to her vote, Councilwoman Hernandez mentioned the more she learned about data centers, the more complex the issues got and her support of them was less. She highlighted environmental impacts of data centers and the fire dangers they posed, and said these data centers were taking up land that could be dedicated for housing, food and other uses. She talked about the water usage of data centers, and expressed support for the guardrails in place on data centers in this ordinance.
Prior to her vote, Vice Mayor O'Brien thanked Council and staff for all of their hard work on this, as well as stakeholders that contributed to these policies that will be implemented. She highlighted the need for businesses to come here, but safety and health concerns were a priority.
