Report

Summary

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community 12 Percent Gaming grant application process is by invitation only. The tribe will select and identify which municipalities and local non-profits to invite to apply for funding consideration. An invitation to apply is not a guarantee that the application will be selected for funding by the tribe. Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community does not consider multi-year capital campaign projects. If awarded, the funds would be applied, as directed by Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, towards the following:

City Application

Office of Arts and Culture, S'edav Va'aki (formerly Pueblo Grande) Museum: $206,846 for creating a new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Gallery at S'edav Va'aki Museum (Completion of Phase 3B, 4 and 5 of Interpretive Plan), which the project purpose is to create an additional public gallery space by converting three current museum offices into an exhibit gallery. This renovation is based on the Interpretive Vision and Architectural Plan developed in 2023, which calls for Gallery 1B or the archeologically-focused gallery to be created so that the Museum can present an updated interactive STEM experience for its visitors.

Non-Profit Application

Paws for Youth: $20,000 for the Pet Therapy Program, which provides free trauma-informed, animal-assisted programs to trauma-affected youth ages six to 18 to help them navigate challenges and build resilience to overcome adversity.

The gaming compact entered into by the State of Arizona and various tribes calls for 12 percent of gaming revenue to be contributed to cities, towns, and counties for government services that benefit the public, including public safety, mitigation of impacts of gaming, and promotion of commerce and economic development. The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community will notify the City, by resolution of the Tribal Council, if it desires to convey to the City or nonprofit a portion of its annual 12 percent local revenue-sharing contribution.

Financial Impact

There is no budgetary impact to the City and no general-purpose funds are required. Entities that receive gaming grants are responsible for the management of those funds.
